The End is Near

I've nearly reached the end of the three book series.

I've put a lot of years into them.  Since I began writing with these characters in this world, so much has changed.  I've taken a master's class in writing.  E-publishing arrived like a magnificent dragon, rampaging through the publishing industry, forcing the traditional publishing giants to man their fortifications and breed their own dragons.  Friends have passed away, and I've made new ones.  I've been to foreign countries I hadn't visited before starting the series.  And now I'm working with technological devices that didn't exist when I began, except maybe in the imaginations of science fiction writers.

I know what my next project will be, and I'm starting to get excited about it.  It's a good thing, because when I finish writing a book, it's like moving away.  I can remember back when I lived in that beautiful place with those wonderful friends living right next door ….  Those first few days are hard, and I feel homesick.  The best remedy is to get involved in exploring my new home, but I know I'll still long for the world of Masks.  Maybe in a few years I'll be able to read the books from beginning to end and experience them as a reader rather than a writer.  That, I think, will be a lot of fun.

I wonder, what will the real world be like when I'm finished with my next series of books?  And what will I be like?
